This is a free resource designed, tried, tested and refined by myself and my amazing network of activists. The Ultimate Call Party Pack explains what a call party is, why they are valuable, how to run one, and includes scripts and call sheets for a handful of call to action. The full document is a live resource and may be changing. It can be found here
After a month off social media, filled with back-to-back seminars, call parties, lectures, events, and fundraising, I have put together a simple manifesto of the ways I will be making my anti-racism activism sustainable:
💰Money where my mouth is. I have been donating every day this month to organisations that have been asking for them and to friends causes. These will become weekly contributions.
💸Buying black. A new habit and I will be continuing it in skincare specifically because this is a regular outgoing. I no longer buy brands who use incaserated labour Inc underwear and swimwear (which is all I buy new).
🤳Education. Yes I read books, did seminars, workbooks. But going forward I realise my lane: sharing how information can change your mind for other WW. So I'll aim to do a weekly "cancel cancel culture" talk on IGTV on different topics to normalise changing your stance as new learning happens.
📞Demanding justice. I have spent this month trialing the call party pack with friends and colleagues. The resource is now available. Over 5000 calls have been logged so far. Going forward I will do a monthly call party on UK BLM issues, because this is where my vote matters.
💬Taking conversations seriously. Becoming anti-racist resists performance, it is messy and won't look cute on IG. This month has had lots of hard conversations with other yt people, and thats what we should be doing - racism is our problem and it's our responsibility to be constant and difficult with our friends and family to change hearts and minds. I did not realise how important that is and I promise to keep doing it.
✊Protesting. I can't protest physically as I am immunocompromised. I have been contributing in other ways and im fine with that. I have been reposting images and facts about BLM protests. I will keep doing this. Everyday. I know it's a lot! but I'll make a deal with everyone - I will stop reposting them when there is no longer a need to have them. Sound fair?
🎓Work place changes. Racism is rank and specific in the aid sector. This month I called out an NGO I work with for lack of black members when it was considered a BLM statement. I will continue to do so whenever and wherever possible.
